In May, the City of Minneapolis passed the Sick and Safe Time Ordinance requiring mandatory sick and safety leave for all employees located within the City of Minneapolis. Minneapolis is currently the only city in Minnesota with such a requirement, but other cities will likely follow. The impact of the ordinance is broad, as it applies to ALL employers who have employees performing at mere 80 hours of work per year within the City of Minneapolis, regardless if the employer operates in Minneapolis or in another state. This will significantly impact the health care industry, restaurant and chain establishments, and employers with part-time employees. Learn how the ordinance will affect your company’s payroll, scheduling and “call-in” requirements, vacation and PTO policies, and other issues in anticipation of the change, as the new ordinance becomes effective on July 1, 2017.
